Why it matters

What every consumer of a medical standby services should know:

There is a confusion surrounding some of the terms used in describing the various services and standards that companies "bandy" about in describing the pros and cons of their particular "brand" of medical standby. This section explains the most common misunderstood terms that can catch the unwary client. Being informed enables you to understand the critical questions that need answering from potential service providers.

Remember the often used phrase... "buyer beware!"

What is a Paramedic?

Not all paramedics are created equal. The term is widely used to describe anything from somebody with 80 hours of training, through to somebody with over three years of training. The level of care therefore that these differently trained paramedics can deliver is night and day.

There is no one recognised standard as yet in Canada. Each province sets its own standard and therefore a paramedic in BC may not be able to provide the same service as a paramedic in Ontario, or vice versa. Ask specifically about the level of care that that particular paramedic is able to provide.
